Letter of Invitation – Your Key Document
The Letter of Invitation is the critical document that anchors your visa application. Stunning Dentistry issues this within 24 hours of your treatment plan approval. It includes your full name, UK passport number, treatment type and purpose, expected arrival and departure dates, estimated treatment duration, clinic contact details, clinic accreditation status (ISO 9001:2015, HTM 01-05 sterilisation, MHRA-equivalent implant brands), and our undertaking regarding your medical care. This letter directly addresses the Indian authorities' need to verify that you are a legitimate medical patient with a confirmed appointment. It significantly streamlines your visa approval and demonstrates pre-planning, which favours quick processing.

Common Documentation Questions
Your CRM coordinator reviews your documents before submission to catch any issues. Common supporting documents include a colour scan of your UK passport's biographical page (all four corners visible, no glare, minimum 10KB maximum 300KB), a recent passport-sized photograph (2 inches x 2 inches / 51mm x 51mm, white background, taken within the last 6 months, face centred), proof of financial capability (recent UK bank statement from Barclays/HSBC/Lloyds/NatWest/Santander/Nationwide or a letter from your bank confirming funds), and the Letter of Invitation from Stunning Dentistry. If you have any special circumstances (recent name change post-marriage, multiple UK passports, dual nationality, or HMPO emergency travel document), your coordinator guides you on appropriate supporting evidence. Note: if your UK passport has less than 6 months remaining validity on arrival, you must renew via HMPO (standard service £88.50; Premium £207.50 one-day service available at 7 UK passport offices) before applying.

What If Your Visa Application Faces Delays?
Whilst visa refusal for legitimate medical patients is rare, occasional delays do occur. Common reasons include minor documentation inconsistencies, processing backlogs during peak periods (particularly around Indian public holidays like Diwali, Holi, Republic Day, and Independence Day), or requests for clarification from Indian authorities. Your CRM coordinator monitors your application status and can follow up with the Indian visa centre if delays exceed expected timelines. If reapplication is needed, we help identify any gaps and resubmit with strengthened documentation. Your coordinator keeps you updated throughout and may suggest alternative travel dates if circumstances warrant. The High Commission of India in London (India House, Aldwych) can be contacted as a secondary escalation route if required, though this is almost never needed for e-Visa applications.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Medical Visa or can I use a Tourist Visa?
You must use the Medical e-Visa specifically. Using a Tourist e-Visa for medical treatment can technically violate Indian immigration law and create complications at Immigration at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Delhi) on arrival. The Medical e-Visa is purpose-designed for your situation, is easy to obtain online, and is the correct legal pathway under Indian Bureau of Immigration regulations.
How much does the Medical e-Visa cost?
Approximately £105 for UK passport holders (around INR 11,000-11,500), though fees may vary with GBP/INR currency fluctuations and Indian government updates. Check the current rate on indianvisaonline.gov.in at the time of application. Your CRM coordinator provides current fee information when you begin the application. Payment is typically made via UK-issued Visa, Mastercard, or American Express on the government portal.
What if my visa application is refused?
Refusal is extremely rare for legitimate medical patients with proper documentation. If it occurs, your CRM coordinator helps identify the reason (usually a minor documentation issue such as photo specifications or a passport scan quality problem), assists with reapplication, and can provide additional supporting evidence. We have never had a UK patient unable to obtain a Medical e-Visa when properly documented. As a secondary option, the High Commission of India in London can be consulted, though this has never been needed in our experience.
How long is the e-Visa valid for?
The Indian Medical e-Visa is valid for 120 days from the date of issue. This means if you need to reschedule your trip within that window, you can reuse the same visa. The visa allows up to 60 days per visit and permits three entries, so you have flexibility if you choose phased treatment (e.g. staged zygomatic or complex full-arch work).
Can I extend my stay in India if my treatment takes longer than expected?
The Medical e-Visa allows up to 60 days, which covers the vast majority of treatment cases (typical All-on-4/6 treatment window is 7–14 days). If your specific case requires a stay longer than 60 days (rare, usually only extensive reconstructive cases with bone grafting), your CRM coordinator discusses extended stay options during planning, including conversion to a regular Medical Visa via the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). In practice, this is very rare.
What if my visa arrives after I've already booked flights?
Your coordinator tracks visa processing and only confirms your travel dates once the e-Visa is received and printed. This avoids any risk of arriving at Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, or Birmingham without proper immigration documentation for boarding. We build in buffer time during planning (typically 2-3 weeks between approval and flight booking).
Does travel insurance from Bupa, AXA, Aviva, or Admiral cover Indian medical trips?
Most standard UK travel insurance policies (Post Office, Direct Line, LV=, Aviva, AXA, Allianz, Saga, Staysure) cover general travel incidents in India but typically exclude the planned dental treatment itself (treat it as elective). However, you can purchase specific medical tourism cover or comprehensive policies that include complications from planned procedures. Your coordinator can suggest specialist brokers. Ensure your policy covers a minimum £2m medical expenses and direct air repatriation to the UK. Cost typically £40–£90 for a 14-day medical tourism policy.
